OUR DIAMOND BUYING GUIDE

Choosing the perfect diamond ring is often a new and exciting experience. That’s why we’ve put together our Diamond Buying Guide to help you find out everything you’ll need to know before deciding on the perfect diamond for you.

Below, we discuss the four most important attributes of a diamond – Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat Weight, commonly referred to as the “The Four C’s” of diamond education. “The Four C’s” go a long way in determining a diamond’s value and quality.

All of our diamond rings come with a diamond grading report issued by the Gemmological Institute of America, otherwise known as GIA. GIA provide unbiased diamond analysis and are the world’s most trusted name in diamond grading.

CUT

The most important factor in determining a diamond’s beauty and brilliance is cut. The cut of a diamond refers to its angles and proportions. Diamonds which exhibit excellent symmetry and proportions reflect light from one facet to another, resulting in a display of brilliance and sparkle.

COLOUR

The finest diamonds are considered to be completely colourless. Diamonds are graded on a colour scale established by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) which ranges from D (exceptionally white) to Z (yellow). Difference in colour between one diamond and the next can be very subtle. Experts determine the colour of a diamond by comparing it to a ‘master diamond’ under controlled lighting. The diamond is then given a grading between D – Z on the colour scale.

CLARITY – Diamond

Clarity measures the flawlessness of a diamond by describing the presence or absence of inclusions within the diamond. Nearly all diamonds have some inclusions which are evidence of a natural stone. Diamonds clarity are graded on the Clarity scale and grades range from Flawless (FL), to Included (I). Flawless diamonds are rare, although a diamond does not have to be flawless to be spectacular. Diamonds with VVS, VS and SI Clarity grades represent great choices for brilliance and value.

CARAT WEIGHT

A diamond’s weight is measured in carats. A diamond’s value is not only influenced by its weight but also by its cut, colour and clarity. It is important to note that whilst two diamonds may have identical carat weights, their measurements and dimensions may vary widely with some being more ideal than others.
