Carlier Makigawa studied jewellery at the Claremont and Fremantle Technical Colleges from 1974 to 1977 and in 1980 gained a Bachelor of Art (Design) from the Western Australian Institute of Technology. She completed a Masters of Fine Art at RMIT University in 1987.
